THE TOWER OF BABEL: HIGH AND MIGHTY

 


HIGH AND MIGHTY
(Based on Gen. 11:1-9)

God’s people started to build,
T’ward heaven a very tall tower.
Thinking they’d make a name for themselves,
And flaunt their might and power.

The nation had one language,
Where the Tower of Babel was at.
The Lord confused their speech and then,
New languages were born after that.

Too much might and power,
Can be a destructive thing.
God in His infinite wisdom,
Knew the harm it would bring.

So don’t get high and mighty,
If you build your dreams in the sky;
A lofty attitude is hated,
By The Almighty on High.

The Tower of Babel was located in what would later become the city of Babylon, which is now Iraq. Babel means "confusion" because of the various languages that took place there.

The people wanted to show how smart and capable they were, so they built the tall tower that was supposed to reach into the heavens. (They probably thought the earth was flat too. They weren't as smart as they thought they were.) Now we have men building a super mechanized brain that's supposed to spew out all knowledge. Are they trying to replicate our all-knowing God? Not gonna happen. They are providing us with knowledge at our fingertips but at what cost? They are ruining the land and our peace. They are gobbling up resources and leaving us to foot the bill. After they destroy our land and upset our livelihoods, they will move on with their pockets bulging.

  A CALL TO ARMS (Exodus 17:8-16) Nomads and raiders who killed for pleasure, Attacked the Israelites. Then Moses said to Joshua, “Go fight those Amalekites. For tomorrow I will stand on the hill, With the staff of God in my hands." While he, Brother Aaron and Hur climbed the hill, Joshua followed his commands. As long as Moses held up his arms, the Israelites were winning, But whenever he lowered his arms, The Amalekites were winning. When Moses' arms grew tired, He was given a stone to sit on. Aaron and Hur held up his arms, Until the sun was gone. Joshua won the battle, Then to Moses the Lord God said, "Write this down as something to remember, ‘Til their offspring all are dead."   THREE PART STORY OF SAMSON Part 1: The Riddler (Judges 14:10 - 15:2) Samson was set apart by God, To be a Nazarite. He was never to cut his hair, For in it was his might. From among the Philistine people, Samson took a wife. A string of events were set in motion, That would one day end his life. It started with fun at the wedding, With a riddle he would amuse. The prize was 30 pairs of clothes, And no one wanted to lose. When the answer escaped the Philistines, They sought out Samson’s wife. They told her she must help them, Or she would lose her life.
